Community

What is Community?

We all live in community. A community is a group of people who live in the same area, city or neighborhood, or a group who shares a similar interest, trait, religion, sport, ancestry or other connection. Contributing to the health of the communities you are a member of is an important aspect of everyday wellness.  Your family, your neighbors, and your friends, are all people with whom you share a sense of community.  You are also a part of many other communities.  You are a part of the community that is your state, your country, and the world. People you know personally are also part of your community, because the things that they do can affect your life, just as the things you do can affect theirs.

MY COMMUNITY AND MY WELLNESS

A supportive community is vital for your growth as an individual. Community can give you a sense of belonging and a support network that you can rely on for help and advice. Think of your family and friends and other relationships and how they impact your own life. These close communities are also the people you reach out to when you have problems.

Through your different communities, you come into contact with many people and become a part of something bigger. Your positive contributions to your communities are important because they help your communities remain vibrant and healthy, just like your communities' contributions to your life help you. That's one of the reasons why it's important to think about your daily actions and interactions with others because the choices you make about what you do can affect your community.

In a community, every individual matters. It’s up to the community members to get along and help each other. When you contribute to your community, you are helping others and making your community stronger.
